As we move into Lent, we reflect on who we are and who the Gospel calls us to be. This renewal demands an examination of attitudes and actions. Events of the past year have engaged our nation in a similar examination of consciousness, and, of course, there is a connection between our individual and collective reflections in this pandemic year in which the internet has become for many of us less like the superhighway we travel and more like where we live. Information and misinformation have connected and divided us.

Protecting freedom of information and the safety of individuals and society is no easy task. According to cosponsor Sen. Hirano, the proposed Tech Safety Act would cause “internet platforms to address the serious harms they impose on society or.face potential civil liability.” May Mary, Seat of Wisdom, guide our legislators and us in our evaluation and use of information.
