Even though there is nothing in the Bible about the death of Mary, here is a legend about how Mary’s death took place: It seems that when Mary’s time on earth drew to a conclusion, the apostles and disciples of Jesus knelt around her bed. Her soul was filled with peace and joy as she eagerly awaited her reunion with Jesus, her Son. Then, our Blessed Virgin Mary, our mother too, closed her eyes and fell asleep in death.
You and I can celebrate Our Lady’s Great Feast with our Novena in honor of Mary’s life, death and assumption into heaven. You, together with the Franciscan Friars, celebrate her “family reunion” with Jesus and Joseph, while we wait to rest in her arms at our own death when we will be reunited with her. Your devotion and great generosity in honor of Our Lady is part of this great Assumption Novena.
Your gift in honor of Mary’s Assumption and her reunion with Jesus, also helps educate our young Friars, care for our elderly Friars and most especially to care for Our Lady’s Poor and Desperate – the two million poor infants, children, women and men whom the Franciscan Friars care for each year. Will you celebrate Mary’s reunion with her Son by helping us help those who have no one to care for them?
