In these days just after the new year, we are aware of the power and fragility of human will. We make our resolutions, determined with God’s grace to be better and to do better, For many people living within our borders who lack permanent legal status or a path to citizenship , planning seems an impossible dream. Those brought to this country as children and those people who had been given temporary protected status because of conditions in their native country had been allowed to pursue education and careers. Now the careers, personal and business relationships these immigrants have formed are in jeopardy. The Supreme Court is expected to issue a ruling that will affect the young dreamers. As we reflect on the poignant accounts of Mary and Joseph fleeing their home to protect Jesus, let us pray that our leaders work together to reform our immigration laws so that our neighbors can resolve to pursue their American dream.
